DESCRIPTION
This SS100, Chassis Number 18089 was supplied to the owner of a Bakelite Plant in Liversedge, Yorkshire on 22nd April 1937. The car was seen in Ohio in the 1970s in poor condition. On 21st May 1972 it was advertised in the “Los Angeles Times” for $ 52’000.–. 1979 the car collector Gary Rorbach bought the car. The car was probably restored in England and gained the UK registration RGO763Y. 1982 Robert Holmes à Court, the first billionaire in Australia bought the car and took it to Perth where it joined the Heytesbury Car Collection of Robert Holmes à Court. The Holmes à Court familiy reportedly drove the car on a various excursions. After the sudden death of Robert Holmes à Court in 1990, aged 53, the widow sold some of the cars. 18089 was sold through RM Auctions at the Arizona Biltmore Auction in January 2001 to the present owner in Switzerland.
The car was always well maintained and took place in many Classic Car Events as “Klausen Hill Climb”, “Silvretta Classic”, “GP Bern” and “Mille Miglia”.
The car has a nice patina. Chassis and Engine Numbers are matching. On top of the engine block the lesser known but very important writing “SS100” is readable with the correct hallmark. The headlamps are correct original QK’s. Being an active rally driver the present owner fitted a rare Halda Twinmaster with brass housing.
18089 is mentioned with pictures in Terry Mc Grath’s book “SS in the Southern Hemisphere”.
