Adrian Newey’s 1938 SS100 3?-Litre at the London Classic Cars Show 2015
The first car Adrian bought as a collector, in 1984, during his time in the USA with MARCH. Having competed in a couple of historic rallies with a friend who had a penchant for old Jaguars, Adrian decided to find a suitable car. By chance, he happened across this Jaguar SS100 and, despite the car being in pieces, Adrian decided to buy it.
“It was a bit of a foolish thing to do, but I bought it and brought it back and thought, ‘What do I do? I’ve got this bag of bits.’ My friend Dave knew a guy (Terry Rowing) who wanted to build replicas, so he introduced me and we did a back-scratching thing where he rebuilt it for almost nothing, in exchange for having it to make his patterns from to build the replicas. So all the (Suffolk) replica SS100s you see on the road now are all off my car.”

McLaren design guru Adrian Newey is the most sought-after technical director in F1. So why is he addicted to rallying in a 1938 Jaguar?
